Buena Vista Senior Care (BVSC) is a small, residential assisted living facility offering a range of services for medium to high acuity patients, including Alzheimer's, Dementia and hospice care, in a beautiful quiet residential neighborhood in far northeast Albuquerque.

BVSC is a single facility and has been in business for more than eleven years. The facility and its staff are completely insured, bonded and licensed through the State of New Mexico. The State Department of Health conducts regular inspections of the facility's physical plant as well as its records.

There are eight private rooms available. The eight rooms share two bathrooms, one of which is equipped with a roll-in shower to make it easy for patients with mobility issues to access the shower. All rooms are equipped with cable TV, air re-circulation vents, wardrobe and closet space and necessary furniture. Linens and towels are also provided and resident clothing is laundered on site.

Along with visiting doctors and nurses there are a minimum of two trained caregivers on site during the day to assist with daily living needs such as oral care, bathing assistance, feeding, and other routine activities as are needed to maintain high mental, psychological and physical function for all residents.

A medically certified caregiver is available 24 hours a day to assist with residents' medication needs. All caregivers are subject to background checks.

Three meals a day are prepared and served on site and snacks and drinks are available at any time requested in a safe and healthy environment Special dietary needs are also provided as needed.

The facility offers a range of planned activities on a daily basis. These activities, usually two a day, include anything from arts and crafts to board games, card games and bingo. There is light exercise available and a beautiful backyard patio for enjoying the outdoors that has a large water fountain and several bird feeders attracting birds and allowing residents to enjoy bird watching right in their own backyard.

The facility is fully controlled with a series of magnetically secured doors to insure no resident can wander off. There is an exterior monitoring security system as well as a monitored fire alarm system. Friends and family are free to visit any time between 7 am and 7 pm. Other visiting needs can be arranged with advanced notification.

While BVSC does not do any actual transportation of residents they will assist in securing transportation and scheduling appointments as needed.

BVSC is a private-pay facility but there are a range of options that families may pursue for some long-term care assistance. The VA also offers some aid and attendance financial help for veterans.

David Apodoca purchased the facility in 2014 and is now the owner and director. David, born and raised in Roswell, NM, has a degree in accounting from UNM and spent 29 years as a civil service accountant/auditor for the US Army before retiring and returning to New Mexico to pursue what he felt was his real calling . . . providing service to the elderly.
